Parking

A limited number of parking spaces is available on the site. Access to the car parks is through a barrier with registration-plate recognition and a badge reader. Visitors can report at the barrier using the intercom. Guests of the Innovation Centre can reach it via the ramp. Guests of the Business Centre can reach it via the lift or the stairs.

By taxi

Taxi access is via Pfäffikerstrasse. Passengers may be dropped off at the reception of either the Innovation Centre or the Business Centre.

By train

The Kemptthal train station is located at the north end of "The Valley". When you exit the train station you find yourself near building "Kemptpark 1" which houses the coffee shop "Café Julius by Voland". Next to the coffee shop you find a map of the "The Valley". The Givaudan Innovation Centre is at the south end of The Valley, walking distance of ca 10 minutes. Proceed towards the South Valley and you will see ahead the Givaudan logo on building Kemptpark 40, our Business Centre. Walk past the Business Centre towards the grey brick building, Kemptpark 50, the Givaudan Innovation Centre.

Building entrances and access

The Givaudan buildings each have a central entrance on Fabrikstrasse. The Innovation Centre and Business Centre may be accessed via the main entrance using a badge. Employees and visitors must carry their badge visibly at all times.

Safety rules

The term ‘safety’ covers a variety of aspects, such as occupational health and safety, product safety, building security, etc. To safeguard occupational health and safety at the Innovation Centre, the work areas are divided into zones. All employees and visitors are obliged to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) prescribed for each zone.

Green zone
  • Lab coat or hygiene coat / long trousers and closed flat shoes

  • In the event that chemicals / substances with GHS symbols are handled, the rules of the yellow safety zone apply. 

Yellow zone
  • Lab coat or hygiene coat / long trousers and closed flat shoes.

  •  Safety goggles and appropriate protective gloves are mandatory
    •  when manipulating chemicals / substances with GHS symbols. 
    •  when compounding chemicals. 

Red zone
  • Lab coat or hygiene coat / long trousers and closed flat shoes / safety goggles.

  • Appropriate protective gloves are mandatory when manipulating chemicals / substances with GHS symbols.

Blue zone
  • Lab coat and long trousers or regular Givaudan work clothes / safety shoes (EN ISO 20345, protection level S2). 

  • Safety goggles and appropriate protective gloves are mandatory when manipulating chemicals / substances with GHS symbols. 

  • Safety goggles are mandatory if there are mechanical hazards. (e.g. working with compressed air or under vacuum). 

  • Bump caps / helmets when working near / under spray towers, granulators, extruders, etc. if there is a risk of hitting your head.

Detailed hygiene regulations apply in all areas in which food is prepared, processed or handled. The local and regional guidelines contain detailed provisions on hygiene, as does the FDHA’s Hygiene Ordinance. To guarantee hygiene in the application labs, the work areas are divided into hygiene zones. The hygiene regulations laid down for each zone apply to not only lab personnel, but also visitors (both internal and external) and maintenance and cleaning staff.

Visitors must be accompanied by Givaudan employees.

Low hygiene zone = food material and food contact material storage areas
 

  • Lab coat / clean work clothes, closed flat shoes must be worn

  • Eating and drinking is prohibited

  • Open product handling is prohibited

  • Notebooks, laptops and mobile phones are permitted

  • Wooden pallets are allowed

Hygiene zone 2

Medium hygiene zone = sluices, offices connected to food production areas
 

  • Lab coat / clean work clothes, closed shoes must be worn, except when seated

  • Wash your hands regularly

  • Eating and drinking is prohibited, tasting is allowed

  • Notebooks, laptops and mobile phones are allowed

  • Outdoor coats are prohibited

  • Open product handling is prohibited

  • Plastic pallet, if possible

Hygiene zone 3

High hygiene zone, Procedural high hygiene zone = Food production areas
 

  • Attention: Open product handling!

  • Clean working clothes / lab coats dedicated to the area (single use or textile)

  • Clean hygienic shoes dedicated to the area or closed shoes with overshoes

  • Hair net, beard net (>3mm), short and clean nails

  • No wearing of jewellery

  • No fake nails, eyelashes, and nail polish when preparing food samples

  • Frequent hand washing / frequent change of gloves when handling open products

  • Eating and drinking is prohibited, tasting is permitted

  • Notebooks, laptops and mobile phones are allowed, but hands must be washed or gloves changed after their use

  • Secondary packaging - cardboard boxes not allowed

  • Only plastic pallets are allowed

  • Do not use protective foil around the pallets
