Givaudan launches Scentaurus™, a new family of sustainable fragrance precursors

Offering the broadest palette of fragrance precursors in the industry and reinventing the architecture of fragrances

Givaudan fragrances is thrilled to announce today the launch of Scentaurus™, a family of fragrance precursors to expand the palette of ingredients that offer the possibility for perfumers to formulate long lasting fragrances for various applications.

A fragrance precursor is a low odour molecule which, when exposed to an external trigger such as oxygen, light or water, will release at least one fragrant molecule. This new technology brings long lastingness to fragrances across several categories such as fabric, home and personal care products. The technology also offers a way to counteract habituation by signalling unique top notes during the life of the fragrance.

Givaudan was the first company to introduce, in 2006, a light cleavable fragrance precursor in the palette of ingredients with Scentaurus™ Tonkarose, a molecule that releases two different odourants. Givaudan is now offering a new family of precursors by adding Scentaurus™ Clean, Scentaurus™ Juicy and Scentaurus™ Berry to the palette. Each Scentaurus™ ingredient is exclusive to Givaudan Perfumers to offer high level of versatility in different olfactive families.

In addition to the clear olfactive benefit to fragrance compounds, Scentaurus™ was developed in line with our sustainability approach “A Sense of Tomorrow”, as a responsible innovation with a positive impact on the environment. Scentaurus™ allows the formulation of compacted fragrances and is produced applying the green chemistry principles.
