What is an SDS?

SDS is an acronym for Safety Data Sheet. An SDS describes the chemical and physical hazards associated with a chemical product.

What is the difference between an MSDS and an SDS?

There is no difference between an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and an SDS. The acronym used will depend on the region, for example MSDS is used in the USA, while SDS is more common in Europe.

How do I get an SDS?

There are three ways to receive a Givaudan SDS:

1. Samples. On submission of a new sample to a customer, Sales will send an SDS along with other customer documentation requirements.
2. For all orders, an SDS is issued automatically before the order is despatched. The SDS may be sent electronically if the customer has provided Givaudan with an email address. If a revised SDS is produced by the system, it will be sent for all orders received in the previous 12 months.
3. On Demand. An SDS can be provided on request.

When do I get an SDS update?

Major revisions are automatically created when a hazard classification or transport classification is amended. These should be sent to customers receiving orders of that material in the prior 12 months. For minor revisions – CAS change/ identifier change etc – the revision will be sent on receipt of the next order.

Major revisions result in a version number (whole integer) increase e.g. 
1.0 changes to 2.0.

Minor revisions result in version number changes to decimal integer e.g.
1.2 changes to 1.3.

In which language do I get an SDS?

An SDS will be sent in the default language of the country for the order unless there is a definite requirement that is communicated to our customer care group.

What does GHS means?

GHS is an acronym for Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. GHS is not a regulation; rather it is a framework or guidance for classifying and labelling hazardous chemicals.
